First off, it is a movie not a history documentary, so accuracy is not what we are concerned about. It's entertaining, heroic, great combat sequences, amazing cinematography, fantastic score, awesome narration. Take the movie for what it is, not what you want it to be. And what it is is a thrilling war movie of power, valor and sacrifice. I agree that the poor ratings are by the Persians (lol).

This movie has very mature themes and depicts the nature of human society even in the roughest conditions of the planet. The story is thought-provoking, creative, dark and thrilling all along the way. The fight scenes were also very good and keep you in the moment.

Now this story is one of those glued-to-your-screen types of animation. The action sequences were great and the development of Hanzo Hasashi into Scorpion, a spirit of vengeance was smooth. We are only introduced to the background of Scorpion and Johnny Cage. Well, Johhny Cage doesn't have much of a backstory... washed up actor. The story is compact and intense as Mortal Kombat should be and ends with a cliff hanger. That means we are expecting a sequel, and I suspect the backstories of other characters would be explored over time as this develops into a full-fledged continuous franchise. "If", but I think it should. Definitely a must watch. And yes, Scorpion is the poster boy of MK.

The most important elements in a movie for me were met. I loved the theme, the message and the lead character. I love a story of self sacrifice, loyalty and bravery that is executed well enough to make you feel it. The balance was great because it has to be family friendly and not too cartoon-ish. The dialogue was dampened but still great given the era of the plot, I guess that was to keep kids in the loop. I wish the combat scenes were better, the side character focus. The movie was better than I expected. I'm curious as to what over-mathematical criticism some of these so-called critics are giving.

I watched this movie simply because many reviews said it was highly intellectual. It's an entertaining movie but I think I went in with too much expectation; oversold.
