The amount of 1-star reviews is just a reminder that no matter how good something is, you're never going to please everyone.
This movie tells the story of so many kids - and so many parents - in a beautifully colorful and comedic way. I love how it follows Mei along the relatable journey of learning herself independently of the family she so desperately wants to please. It gives us a peek into the world of a mother faced with the decision of projecting her childhood traumas onto her daughter, or instead choosing to break the cycle and allow her daughter the room to grow, even if imperfectly, that mom never had.
Don't want to spoil, but job well done!
