A treat to the eyes, especially if you are familiar with the local customs. But even if you are not, it is still in league with one of the best regional movies for the the direction, cinematography, characters and most importantly the simplicity of the life in this fictitious village of the North Canara district (near Udupi, Kundapura, Mangalore)in Karnataka. Kantara captures the beauty, range and depth of the regional folklore that has been carried forward from many generations, that the locals have a strong faith in and are ready to risk their life for.. it is definitely not to be confused with superstition. Watch it for the audio-visual experience if not anything else.

An eyeopener, should be made a must watch for primary schools, government bodies and in offices where decisions made will impact the lives of generations to come and the overall health/well being of the planet.

Started off well.. Gradually the plot thickens, but kind of lost the way and does not live upto the hype when they recount the history and link the happenings with the 1857 mutiny, a power hungry colonel and black magic. While it is a bit convincing, the dialogues, characters and script start faltering before the series blows into an all out zombie apocalypse. It could have done more justice to the actors of the calibre of Vineet Kumar though. Would give it 3 out of 5 stars for the effort n experiment of making a series that merged Indian history, folklore, the naxal problem and a few other things.

A very pertinent movie in today's times. When unsuspecting, desperate masses looking for faith, hope and divine intervention are being herded towards a panacea, an enigmatic answer to their woes. The vested interests behind the freak show have a well defined professional bottom line and sinister long term plans with tacit support from the authorities. Staged miraculous healing, collaboration with international scamsters.. This movie has it all. The plot kind of goes mainstream after the first half though, typical potboiler stuff. Introduction of the eye candy love interest, some drama, flashy lights, the works.. Overall a very sensitive topic, handled with a lot of care n commercial sense. Definitely a worth watch, more so for the first half of a very long movie of almost 3 hours.

Has a very slow start.. You take a while to absorb, to understand the proceedings. Has a very calm, very lacklustre, very mundane flow.. Majority of the movie revolves around the usual conversations and small talk at a workplace amongst peers.. Until things start taking a mysterious and interesting turn when a shrink is called in for investigating an incident. The ordinary movie suddenly becomes extraordinary and closes on a completely unpredictable note.
