This is undoubtedly a lovely film in so many regards. The dream of many, to live on a lovely, quiet island....or is it? I really wanted to love this movie. I love the combination of Farrell and Gleason, They are magical together, along with a brilliant cast. I understand that a great film has you leaving with a plethora of emotions at the end. I felt sick to my stomach as it went on. I won't share details as others have, but it really felt heavy and harsh, as life is. I know that it is, this reminder was a tough one. Attachments of beings were developed and the hard hammer hit that life can indeed change and just when you think all can't get worse...it can.
I'll stay with the stories that bring me light and escapism. I just felt that after watching this, I wish I had skipped it, only because i felt the pain that was presented. THAT is great filmmaking.
