The Star Wars franchise kind of story telling and the narrative style in the television series may/may not appeal to a huge generation of people. I have also read about that in many reviews in popular magazines. But all of that may not be true. I realised that after revisiting and watching the Boba Fett series fresh again last week in Sept, 2023 after abandoning it in 2022 after the first episode.
There is a distinct style to it. The story telling picks on the details and subtleties of the life events of the main character as they unfold in the present and also in the past. Slow in the beginning, simmering in the middle and a serial cracker in the last two episodes. A good statement to make : Boba Fett becomes wise. It is the way !
A vast generation of people are used to the grandeur, the fast paced action adventure and out of the world Scifi of the Star Wars films. But the franchise story telling is a different game. It is like sipping a finely aged matured wine. The narration is slower but gradually engaging. It elaborates on the character details that were left out in the main films and weaves them as a spin off. The character of Boba Fett gets revealed though a a riveting strong story in the series. I think one needs to be patient and enjoy the maturation.
Boba's meeting with the Tuskens (Desert people) and "open your mind" kind of scenarios were cleverly written and directed. I should also say, a lot of thought from the creators (Jon Favreau and others) have gone in making those small robots come alive by adding a pinch of emotions to them. For instance, by making them dance and hide.
I liked the partnership/ relationship between Fenec shand and Boba Fett. It was well enacted. It is neither a complete bite nor a distant gaze. It is a good tease between the two. As matured adults, we can learn a bit or two from the script itself in many of the dialogues for instance, when Boba says " We can only go so far (in life and work) without a tribe". So true.
There is enough action in the last 3 episodes to make action lovers long for more. Overall, would highly recommend and add it along side the Mandalorian series. Cheers.
