Absolutely incredible movie that I have watched several times and will watch many more! I am a bit of a U.S. history buff with a particular interest in the treatment of African Americans, particularly in the South. I'm talking pre-Civil War all the way through the 60's and 70's and unfortunately even today. Of particular interest to me is the history of events that took place in Alabama and Mississippi. The Montgomery bus boycott, starting with Rosa Parks refusal to give up her seat on the segregated bus system, has always been of interest to me.
I am a huge fan of both Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek. Spacek is a married wealthy homeowner and Goldberg her maid. The bond of friendship that these 2 develop throughout the movie is heartwarming, especially given the tension of the Jim Crowe laws of the South. I knew of the bus boycott and of Rosa Parks, but didn't know the details of the carpool story. This movie is a must-see. If you've seen the movie 'The Help' you might find this comparable. Both excellent movies!!!!!!
