Excellent documentary on so many levels. And highlights the shameful exploitation of the Sherpa.
Gorgeous scenery and fabulous camera work.
On a personal level I couldn’t get over one climbing couple explain their “devastation” that because of lack of Sherpa, they could not climb Everest. No matter that Sherpa mourning the death of 16 comrades wanted to both honour their dead and fulfill the wishes of their families. But these two were “devastated”.
Or the client who wanted to punish those who would not guide by getting them blackballed.
First world white privilege at it’s worst.
As for the Operator Russell, no comment, but he came across as self serving. He did the right thing by stopping a climb in a previous climbing season and was lambasted for it apparently.
No one apparently said, we will provide the Sherpa families with appropriate compensation.
I wonder if it has changed. An additional insert in the credits telling us of any changes in compensation would be great.
