NO SPOILERS: It looked good and was REALLY hyped up but honestly it doesn’t really do it for me. The actual plot of the movie fits into the last 30-45 minutes ish of the film. The rest just feels like it was stretched out too long. 2 hours is so unnecessary considering the fact not much happened. I suppose it could be character development but the characters are all quite bland anyway. Glinda seems to be the only one with personality and even Elphaba isn’t very interesting so you end up with one boring and the other annoying. The soundtrack is supposed to be good. It’s a musical. But really the songs seem pointless and random. They aren’t particularly memorable and seem to just repeat. You can’t really sing along yk. It just doesn’t do justice to the fact they have two stunning voices as the lead roles. Defying Gravity is a good song and isn’t randomly placed but that’s one song. Even though it’s effective and beautifully sung, it comes at the very end for a powerful finish - but that’s it. The only good song is as the finale. I understand that this is a movie version of the musical but really the things they have control over such as the sets and characters and costume design etc., weren’t particularly interesting either. I mean they have such a massive budget and yet have a set that looks like it’s out of a kids TV show on CBeebies. Anyway this is just my take on it. I will still be watching the part 2 when it comes out next November. I hope that lives up to expectations considering this one did not.
