I just saw the movie and must say I cannot wait for it to come to HBO or SHO so I can rewatch it several more times. I don’t need to explain the overall plot in detail, you all know it already. My take on it today wasn’t very good. I definitely expected more. I loved A1 and A2, rewatched A3 and A4 yesterday. Was it painful? Yes. A4 is a hard pill to swallow. I can’t stand Winona’s acting one bit. I enjoyed the prequels too. I heard and saw explanations that made sense and shed new light for 1 & 2. My gripes…First, the cast were way too young. How did they know things that 2500 other workers on a space station didn’t. How did they just take a ship and know how to operate it? Get to where they were going, Dock it, operate all the systems on the new (old) ship? Then the lighting gets too dark throughout the rest of the movie. That upset me. Ok, they borrowed from the Alien franchise, so what. Call it an homage. The Aliens in this movie chase the cast way too slow. If they moved as fast as in the others, the entire cast would be dead in an hour. The facehuggers create Zenomorphs way too quickly. Most of the cast are gone too soon to even develop. I did like the humanoid, Andy and thought adding Ash was a good thing, especially with his conversation with Andy. Lastly and to me most importantly, Rain, the main character, knows way too much at such a young age. The reason 1 & 2 are so damn good is Ripley is older and has already learned by her experience and rank how to operate sophisticated equipment and think things through. It’s believable in both 1 & 2. Ripley’s amazingly intelligent and ‘becomes’ brave, scared throughout, but brave. She learns how to battle just one Zenomorph, and that’s scary enough, but here we have at least a dozen. Alien 2 continues with things that make sense. Now there’s where dozens of Zenomorphs make sense. Of course we all agree Aliens was fantastic. Very different than Alien, but Ripley knew what they were up against even before their journey began. This cast knows nothing about what they’re going to face after they dock the ship. The crew discover things to outsmart face huggers that the entire Marine force and Ripley couldn’t? How does Rain understand and execute perfectly all that she does. That really bothered me . Especially at the end when it’s all stolen from 1, 2 and 4. She has the where for all to put on a space suit? Did she learn that too on a mining ship as a laborer? IF the cast was older and it was explained how they were prepared to operate spacecraft and slowly learned how to battle their enemies it would’ve been a far better movie. I will definitely give it more views. There are several movies that a second shot changed my mind. Hopefully, this doesn’t stay as poorly to me as the Godfather 3.
