John Proud – Google

"Play it Loud" is a rather short album by 2024 standards. It's like "Revolver"(1966) it comes and goes so fast. But you just know these LPs are so special. Every second counts. Slade doesn't fail with these 12 tracks. The group sound wonderful - especially Noddy. Not a hit LP in 1970/1971, but it has been a steady grower. Great front band photo. And dig those Don Powell writing credits! A fine album to return to - time after time. It is not heavy metal, but it is a sort-of close cousin.

This was my favourite UH studio LP for many years. Not listened to it for ages. I bought it on vinyl in 1978 & then on CD in 1997. It now seems somewhat distant from the sound/style of the Byron/UH albums. The same with Heep's music of 2007 to 2024. All the same I still love the 8 Firefly songs. SYMPATHY, ROLLIN ON & THE HANGING TREE are great. This was a great first post-Byron effort. The remaining 70s LPs were a let-down though.

Released way back in 1957 - 5 years before I was born! SINGIN' TO MY BABY was Eddie's only album to be released in his lifetime. It's no classic, as his more famous tunes had yet to be recorded. But taken at face value, this is a likeable set. Shame that DARK LONELY STREET wasn't included though. One of my favourite Cochran tracks. But I like MEAN WHEN I'M MAD & UNDYING LOVE. Also love the ballad TELL ME WHY. Great vocals. This set is not THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON 🌒 - but it's still loveable!

Shame that this album ended as it did. This 3rd M.T.H. LP was almost a pastoral symphony (esp. WATERLOW). Some urban imagery though. The last - in concert - track is great. But couldn't it have been placed somewhere else? Hunter is great on this album. Isn't LAY DOWN rousing and fab! Ralph's is good as well. Love WRONG SIDE OF THE RIVER & HOME IS....... The LP is an awkward introduction to M.T.H. but there is still much to love.

I haven't heard this one for about 15 years. The very first Genesis record that I bought/heard. Loved it. I wanted to BE Peter Gabriel - Top Guy! (We share the same hair-do these days!). DUSK is gorgeous - I have sung it a cappella upstairs in the Sheffield/Shalesmoor pub SHAKESPEARES (c. 2001). THE KNIFE 🔪 would have been more tricky! All 6 songs are fine ! Still love them all. But why she's never there, I still don't understand!

This is the very first Roxy Music LP that I ever heard. Back in early 1979. And it was the original versions of the songs. Also heard two later variations on this LP. I like the 1999 CD version best, but am still fond of the very first issue. Perhaps this LP has more in common with ROXY MUSIC/FOR YOUR PLEASURE/SIREN, than it does with their 2 1980s LPs. STRONGER THROUGH THE YEARS is great. So is SPIN ME ROUND. And I have never tired of the 7" version of DANCE AWAY!!

I haven't heard this LP for over 10 years. It will probably have improved with age. The sound is very early 1980s friendly. The only Roxy album to feature (2) cover versions. EIGHT MILES HIGH is great. Love the organ sound. The best originals are SAME OLD SCENE & NO STRANGE DELIGHT. But I also love OH YEAH - bitter/sweet brilliance that one. RUNNING WILD has got great sax and then wonderful guitar. Not my favourite ROXY LP - but it's still good stuff.

I really liked this LP when I first heard it in late 1984. I bought a used copy from a Rotherham record store. I had hated the first single (crumble .... really!?). I haven't heard BEAUTY STAB for ages. I can hear it all in my head though. The first side is the best. Love the instrumental title track. BY DEFAULT BY DESIGN is fab. Will S.O.S ever have its day? Not sure about UNZIP. They lost their pop/dance audience, but failed to capture a new one. Points for bravery though. I saw the changes in Sheffield in the 1980s.

I was a fan(atic) of this LP back in summertime 1982. Don't listen to it much these days. Though I have watched MANTRAP about 4 times recently. Some LEXICON songs cause me to recall some of my thoughts from 1982. That's fascinating and scary all at once! I feel that I once fully consumed this album so that it will always be within me. Now that's brilliant! Music is magic - and so is THE LEXICON OF LOVE! Oh! Let's go to PENNY'S!
