i read all the books in 2 days. it was very nice, light hearted, and funny. all the characters were very insightful and i think there was a romance blooming between airplane and ice nephew-turned king (that would have been nice to read about).
overall, my only "complaint" is the relationship between the characters. i've read her other two series, so maybe my expectations are high, but i feel like this romance wasn't really a romance. like there were romantic moments, for sure, but it felt forced. like all the time shen qingqiu kept saying "how can i say no" and it felt like binghe was manipulating/gaslighting him into doing what he wanted (im not saying he wasnt feeling what he felt - it could have been unconscious). the spicy scenes were a little scary. i dont think there was any sort of respect for what qingqiu wanted from binghe. binghe kept goin at it, despite qingqiu saying "slow down" or "stop". and qingqiu's "pride" was very annoying. like yall just railed each other, there really shouldn't be any question of pride between partners (that sounds wrong, i promise its not). and the whole "shizun" and "master" and "disciple" thing was a little weird, especially during the spicy scenes and after their marriage.
anyway, that was my rant. i did enjoy this book! it was a def big change (a little appreciated too) from the heavy topics that mxtx used in her previous books!
great job, author!!
