I'm baffled by the gushing, glowing reviews of this book. Had to force myself to finish it, thinking it would get better or redeem itself in the end. The main character is tedious and annoying. The 5 year old child's dialogue with adults is totally implausible. The dog's perspective was at least a respite from the otherwise uninspired writing.
