‘Paperman’ is an animated short film centred around a man and woman finding each other through paper documents. Yes, you read that right. Disney has produced a heartful, romantic piece of complete make-believe cliches. The typical sullen office worker is suddenly enlightened by the young, pretty ‘hero of the story’ – his love at first sight. The beginning is somewhat enticing – however that expectation is soon dissipated. The storyline drags on, eventually concluding with an extremely unsatisfying and predictable end scene. The film never recovers from the awkwardness of its beginning, leading to an underwhelming and bland plot. The grey, sombre tone of the film leaves you feeling miserable and annoyingly unsatisfied.
