Disappointing, as a devout Catholic and secular Franciscan I wanted to like this movie. I was excited to see it. I found the plot hard to follow, with little dialog or character development.
It's a classic example of everything that's...challenging about Catholic films. It's like it's told from the point of view of someone who is intimately familiar with the story of Padre Pio and assumes everyone else is as well.
The profound impact that it had on the cast during the filming is perhaps the most redeeming aspect. I will continue to support these films in hopes that the talented people behind them can become better story tellers.
