I was uncertain about this series as the first book’s cover art is not very attention grabbing. But, after the first paragraph I was hooked...;-) I have just finished book 7 and am looking forward to the release of book 8 this December. Please note that this is a slow-burn story arc that does not rush ANYTHING. So, those that have difficulty focusing on a single task for more than a single day may not have the patience. But, if you amerce yourself in the magic system, and the universe built by Travis Deverell, you shouldn’t be disappointed. Additionally, I recommend that you finish the series, character development is drawn out and will not happen in the first 10 chapters (or by book 3 of 8)…I think some of the more negative reviews that focus on specific aspects of the story structure or character design were written without having read more than a couple books in the series, as they are surprisingly inaccurate/incomplete in the context of having completed 7 of 8 books. I also highly recommend the Audible reading of this series. I have listened to over 100 audio titles and Heath Miller’s performance is one of the best I have experienced. It can be difficult to match the narrator to the material…in this case they nailed it!
