I went into this movie not knowing what to expect nor having seen anything about it. I wanted to treat it as just another sci-fi movie. Instead, what I found was an absolute gem of a movie. I originally saw this movie in 2013 at the recommendation of a friend, but seeing it again in 2021 makes the movie hit very differently.
It's rare for a moment to make me feel as though it is openly facing the topics of identity and the impacts of isolation. This is the sort of movie you come away from feeling changed, not because your horizons were broadened or your ideas challenged, but because you're going to be asking yourself the same hard questions that Sam faces throughout the movie.
This movie is a genuinely solid recommendation.
