I wanted to like this book. I admit the first little bit was engrossing. I was eager to see Lucy's path to healing after rejection by someone she "loves". I began to have a big issue with "Getaway Gabe" going all over we the world to live his best life and repeatedly showing how his priorities were out of alignment, yet he still lives rent free in Lucy's mind. He also had no issue with stringing her along all these years. I'm all for hopeless romantic situations, but come on, Lucy! He's just not that into you if he doesn't want to stick around. You are a grown woman and need to get your life in order before you marry another and bring children into this world! It's giving subtle tones of Fatal Attraction to be honest. Lucy's character never really develops emotionally throughout the book. It's as if she stunted by the loss of her first obsession. I would call it love, but, it's her author has not quite convinced me of that. After all, she's spent the better part of the book being deceitful to her husband by basically stalking her former flame online and via email. Everytime "Getaway Gabe" called or needed her, she came running. This man had a GRIP on her! The ending was sudden and rushed as if the author just gave up. It leaves a lot of questions. It's difficult believing that so many people truly loved this book and the moral flexibility the book displayed, although it's pretty telling. The entire text was practically a journal to him about them and her life outside of him. Not the best use of an afternoon.
