Lisa Wilkinson was cautioned just days before her speech by the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions that Mr Lehrmann was entitled to the presumption of innocence.
The caution was a “clear and appropriate” warning during a pretrial conference on June 15 that the defence could launch a stay application in the event of increased publicity, but she ignored this advice and in the interests of self promotion, proceeded to trample on an accused person's right to a fair trial
ACT law does not allow the accused to be tried by a judge alone, Lisa Wilkinson was aware of this and as such realised her comments could influence a jury.
Now because of her the trial has been delayed and has wasted the time of the ACT Supreme Court which means other defendants will have to wait longer for their matters to be heard. Perhaps she would like to comment on their cases as well
