I am trudging somewhere in the doldrums near the halfway point of this ponderous work. I am finding it hard to enjoy, there's just too much unnecessary extra description of everything and i'm struggling to care about the many many characters when i get about 5 minutes of each of them before cycling on to the next. By the time i get back to a character I've forgotten what they are doing, and why i should care. I'm very tempted to just skip to the finale and save hours of my life. Sorry Dan, I am a fan but... meh :(
