I used to love watching John Oliver. Just can’t stomach him anymore. He would provide illumination and comprehensive coverage to lots of non-reported issues. Now, so many of the episodes boil down to the evils of the white man or a 1 dimensional view of the world. It makes main stories sound like one-sided propaganda. Like on the episode about Hawaii, he keeps talking about what white people were doing versus the US government. There were many reasons at the time that the US government wanted to annex Hawaii (doesn’t make it right…as history is filled with injustice). To boil the theme down to the “white man wanted it” is an attempt to take circumstantial evidence (White people were the majority of the governing bodies) and suggest racism as the root cause. It keeps being reinforced that the left has lost their color blind goals for a desire to see racism everywhere, even if the issues were not about racism. It’s like witch trials all over again. They used to make similarly absurd arguments.
