I watched this as a child, the makeup of the male cast was far too distracting and confusing, and dulled a potentially fun programme. The music and routines were clever and usually very jolly. However, the George Mitchell Glee Club Festival of Popular Songs in 1956 appeared far superior, appearing more like a modern musical we see today and lacking the makeup that makes the B&W Minstrels (in)famous. Nonetheless, it's a shame the former Glee Club couldn't be continued instead of the Minstrels. Glee still belongs in the 21st Century and the Minstrels don't.
