As a Nigerian girl who first read this book at 13, I always thought of the story as fun and funny. It wasn't until I was 18 I truly appreciated the subtle way the author uses the darkness present in humanity to serve as a backdrop to the absolute destruction of a man.
If you think classics are all about enigmatic sentences and convoluted ideas and principles, this book would disappoint you. It's simplicity of expression is perhaps this books greatest flex, and would keep you up many a night ruminating on the fear that rules our lives.
