Watched this movie for the first time today, unbiased by a previous viewing or nostalgia factor. This movie is objectively a poor misuse of both Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington’s acting capabilities. This is arguably the worst movie of both actors’ respective careers that gained massive notoriety. One of the few highlights of this movie aside from the plot-carrying action sequences was the soundtrack and the cameo of Snoop Dogg. The overarching plot of this movie is nonsensical, whilst the concept of every event in this movie taking place over the course of a single day is entirely unrealistic, even for cinematic standards. Even for early 2000’s standards, this movie’s action sequences were unnecessarily drawn out with poorly written raunchy comedic dialogue. The actual visual component of the action sequences left me scratching my head, like “really Denzel? You have to throw Ethan Hawke through the chimes?” The only real reason I’m giving this movie 3/5 stars is because the comedic element delivered well, I even quote myself saying “even 21 Jump Street couldn’t try to be this funny.”
