Gripping, horrifying and believable. The character of Delia, was portrayed as someone a bit different, an outsider, with the sense of an unusual past.
This was before the terrible events that nearly destroyed her.
Clearly let down by the police and the justice system, she manages to prevail, perhaps, at least in part because of the very peculiarities that make her odd, difficult and seemingly ungrateful.
You are faced with a difficult, blunt and very complex victim, someone not easy to like, not easy to help and preferable to avoid. As a service provider it is challenging to give such a person the same attention as a likeable, heroic and grateful victim.
It is a challenge faced by doctors, nurses, social workers, support workers and volunteers. Helping that "unpleasant" person can be a test even for the best of us.
Thought provoking
