"A Quiet Place: Day One" disappoints across the board compared to its two predecessors.
The choice of a depressed woman with cancer as the main character is problematic and makes the storyline lack momentum. While the emotional context of her wanting to eat her favorite pizza one last time before she dies is meant to be understandable, this motivation feels contrived and lacks credibility.
The portrayal of the man in the film as a weakling is also unbalanced. It does not contribute to the further development of the plot. The character's lack of strength and courage makes the story appear weak.
The integration of the cat into the film is also problematic. Its repeated disappearances and the lack of any reaction to the alien seem unrealistic. Normally, a cat would either hiss or try to escape in such a situation. The fact that the cat does not even meow or make any noise feels illogical and does not add to the tension.
I must particularly criticize a scene that casts the film in a particularly negative light. When the alien, known for its superior hearing, fails to detect a heartbeat sound even though it is only a few centimeters away from the man, it is implausible. This inconsistency significantly undermines the film's realism.
In conclusion, "A Quiet Place: Day One" unfortunately does not reach the quality of its predecessors. While the first two films were thrilling and well thought out, this installment disappoints both in terms of plot and character development. I hope that future films in the series will regain their former strength, possibly with a longer and more convincing storyline.
