I disliked this film. The shaky camera and blurry bottom screen focus seemed like cheap tricks. The music was grating. The endless scenes of VG trudging through landscape were boring with the exception of some very nice compositions. However, Dafoe was great, and the best scene was with the priest imo. But the filmmaking was pretentious and too evident, and made me less immersed in VG’s sumptuous work. I was really excited to see this, and left disappointed.
