If it wasn't for Maika Monroe I'd score this movie as 2/5. The story line unfolds well even if a bit slow. However I just couldn't connect to Jake Lacy. I kept coming back to my thought that he's just not a very good actor - certainly not good enough to pair up with Maika. The first half of the story was really good however the second half was miserable - almost to the point of not watching the rest however I was invested and kept going to see how Maika's character would play out.

Not 5* but very well done. I'm not one who delves into how well a movie is produced or how well individual actors perform. I watch to be entertained. I very much enjoyed the story and various layers. Nothing was over the top. Any time I come away from a film feeling at least a little emotional, I know I've seen a good film.

It's a hard show to do because the book was so good. I'm sure some will be uncomfortable with the Las Vegas portions but the tv-ma rating is there for a reason. I'm glad it wasn't "cleaned up" for regular broadcast TV. I Am very much enjoying it.
