There’s just something dull and uninspired about this installment. I kept thinking the entire watch that something was missing, making it so lack luster and forgettable. I think I know what it is. The previous Conjuring films gave the audience a story to relate to, sympathize with, and root for. The cause of this film is explained away in a brief conversation with a priest and really, there isn’t one. The previous films, and even with Annabelle, you felt like the terrible events were simply justified by pure evil, happenstance, a cursed home. The Devil Made Me Do It places all the blame as random acts of evil committed by a curious woman who we never even get to explore the background of. I will continue enjoying the previous installments, but this one will be a one and done watch that will fade into the generic horror tropes.
