So I started reading this book because I found it in one of my neighborhood library bookshelves & I saw it was on Reese Witherspoon booklist. Typically books on Reese’s list tend to be good, but I was incredibly disappointed with this one. This is probably the worst book I’ve read, however, I continued reading because I wanted to see the garbage that this author is trying to teach young women. Essentially it boils down to race and that if you’re a white female trying to help out a minority, that may benefit from your help, you are a horrible person. I’m a minority, and in fact I used to babysit for a white family while I was in high school but I didn’t see it that way. I was just a young girl babysitting for a family, I did not see them as a “WHITE family”. They knew I was young & could benefit from earning some cash! I don’t care if you’re purple, pink, or blue, if you were to offer your assistance to me during a time of need, I would take it (ex: taking positive career advice) I wouldn’t see it as a WHITE lady trying to help me…
Albeit, the way that the mom was trying to help out the babysitter was far from perfect, this book was just unacceptable.
With that being said, the moral of this book is disgusting.
In case you’re wondering what I’ll be doing with this book, I’ll be using the pages for my next bonfire. I don’t want this book to continue poisoning the mind of young females, we’ve already got the media doing enough of that! This book will no longer go back on the neighborhood library bookshelf- glad I removed it.
