How can you not be in awe with this film. The cinematography, the Dantesque journey, strong acting and the human cost of total war... but... at times all of this overpowers the storyline. Some gaps in the logic of individual actions. Why go after a sniper when running away was the better option? Why run away from an enemy soldier, when you could shoot him? That and a few continuity gaps. Perhaps the pursuit of pictorial metaphor overpowers the need for logic? Still a powerful movie that keeps you engaged.
