I was very hesitant to watch at first because my heart has always been connected to the Peter Jackson trilogy. I have done some research and it seems that Amazon did not have the rights to touch the Silmarillion or the Unfinished Tales. All they had to go off of was the LOTR trilogy books as well as the Hobbit. They also were not able to use Peter Jackson or any of the original actors (as far as I am aware) because of legal issues with Warner Brothers (through New Line Cinema). So the fact that they have made their own adaptation and were able to conjure up this story line from the depths of the history only found in the LOTR trilogy books, this series seems promising. It is a pretty slow start, but I think they are just setting up for the start of the entire series.
So I have gone into it with an open mind. Many people are steamrolling this series without giving it a chance. It is almost as if they can't go into it accepting the fact that it is a completely different adaptation of the LOTR. Finally, it is just a show. If you don't like it, read the books and quit harping on someone else's years of hard work. They did this in order to give us entertainment. I am going to sit back and enjoy it. We may never get the chance to enjoy Middle Earth on screen after this... I'm taking what I can get!
