This is the first time I have been disappointed by Marvel.
I’m not going to spoil any but let’s just say that a significant character dies about every 30 minutes.
This is depressing and unnecessary.
It is also unrealistic. If someone really important to me or in my family dies/is MURDERED I am probably gonna lie in bed for at least a week. But in this movie they shed tears for two minutes and then are back to laughing and joking around with the other characters. It doesn’t make any sense.
When main characters die consistently, we also are less likely to care when they die because it happens so often, but we’re also less likely to connect to the characters or care for them in general because we know there’s a high probability they might die. This is less enjoyable because you are less connected to anyone in the movie and it’s even more depressing because when people die you don’t care as much as you want to.
The absolute WORST part of this movie which I cannot emphasize enough is suicide. Suicide, rape, and even murder are so complicated and devastating it’s already extremely difficult to incorporate these in movies effectively. The fact that they include this depressing, horrific suicide and are trying to stick it into a three hour movie is preposterous. Suicide is so serious and yet the characters don’t even respond appropriately and the way/why/how/when the person commits suicide is not realistic and doesn’t make any sense. This inaccurately depicts the real world which unfortunately is NOT ok.
The only great thing I have to say about this movie is surprisingly the emotions that they incorporate in the character connections. These are honestly the strongest I’ve seen in any Marvel movie ever. I felt these relationships were realistic and heartfelt although I was confused as to whether they were romantic relationships or not which was slightly frustrating. Again, when you’re killing people we have emotional connections to, it’s no longer an entertaining or interesting movie - it’s a movie that I wanna forget about and never watch again.
Other good features are the perfect acting, perfect action scenes, and perfect CGI, but these to me feel like somewhat superficial entertainment and can be seen in other movies whereas the character development and the plot needs to be up to par - otherwise it’s a waste of time.
