What a wonderful film this is. Made by first time filmmaker Ash Cottrell from Melbourne. 10 long years in the making, struggles with funding and distribution.
I watched the film last night at the amazing Pivotonian Cinema in Geelong, courtesy of SPAN - with filmmaker Ash Cottrell present.
What a storyteller Ash is! The music (Ash pursued the musician she told me), the photography, the editing, first rate. There are many moments of slow movement and no music too - moments of great beauty.
Suicide has stigma - and Ash had trouble finding anyone willing to tell their story. Thank you to the 4 people who did. They spoke heartfelt to the camera.
The film is doing the festival circuit now. The original is 41 minutes the SBS version 26 minutes.
Thank you Ash for bringing these stories to the screen. There are many more but these stories are told with exquisite care and beauty.
Highly recommended.
