Having read the books I am sad to say that this is a feeble adaptation. The book focuses on the gunslinger and Jake is a minor character. The movie places Jake at the centre of the story and throws away or disregards major characters. One could list the failures in this fairly awful adaptation however it would take too long. This travesty bears no resemblance to the plot of the Stephen King novels and Idris Elba seems uncomfortable in the role of Roland. Do yourself a favour and read the books.
