I read this wonderful book around 1967/68, when I was about 16, and it made such an impact that I have been fascinated by the Jewish people, their history and the progress of Israel ever since. From early childhood, I developed a passion for history and archaeology (I can still remember seeing my first skeleton in the local museum) and this amazing novel triggered a particular passion that has never left me. As a mature adult, I finally achieved a degree in Archaeology and Landscape Studies and one of my best essays was on Masada.
