Wow! simply just wow!!
What a way to wreck a fantastic show!!! If it were possible, I would give it ZERO stars instead of 1
I must start by saying that I was delighted for the first 9 or 10 episodes! I am a tan of all-time-travel-related movies and TV shows and the original Quantum Leap ranks in the all-time top 3 for me! so Dr. Song's adventures were completely aligned with my expectations and everything came along good... until a chapter called "let them play" came along...
Before starting detailing what I did not like about the turn the show did on that chapter, I must clarify that I am extremely respectful of all forms of life, and all ways to see the world. Specially I must highlight that I am respectful of all the persons that have a different interpretation of what their own gender is, and I would go as far as to say that I am respectful of people that believe they are cats, or dogs of for that matter whatever other thing or being they want to believe they are. Good for them. Good for all of them. And I respect them...
But, and here comes the big but, but taking a great show that has nothing to do with their struggle in life, to make a case that leaves a flavor, feels like and it evidently aims at sensibilize other people of their situation (or better said, desenzibilise other people of their own beliefs and values) just seem wrong on so many levels. That chapter comes completely aimed at making the audience to get to love people that are facing challenges given their belonging to the self-misunderstood-gender-or-simmilar-sex-related-challenge population (I avoid using LGTB or any similar denomination because they add letters every couple of weeks so I know I would be leaving somebody out and that is not the intention) and it deviates completely from the adventures and challenges the time-traveller main character has, and in a very sad final twist in the last few seconds, gives center stage to a different character that had been on the series since the beginning that shares the same self-awareness challenge. To be sincere, I was willing to keep watching the series but I decided to stop alltogether in these lasts minute of that chapter.
Summary: If you want to have fun with time-travel adventures, watch the episodes until the one before the "let them play" episode. If you are willing to be involved in a trans-gender novel for a full 50 minutes chapter and maybe onwards, watch that chapter, but be advised that 70% of the time will be devoted to that and not to anything related to time-travel.
Enjoy!
