I had misgivings about this book a few pages in but kept reading hoping it would get better. It didn't. Character description is thin at best and frequently their actions make no sense - as an example, Ellie is supposedly a computer whiz who can even navigate the dark web, but until the final pages of the book she fails to do the kind of basic online search that would give her answers to her predicament. Another example would be Colleen's mother-in-law, who is indisputably a nasty piece of work, and then does a total 180, reversing decades of obnoxious behavior in about a minute. The language is also jarring - I very much doubt, for instance, that any child in this day and age would refer to anything being "swell." I wish I could get the time back that I wasted on this book.
