I have already praised this show many, many times. I watched the original Wonder Years growing up, so I was a bit hesitant to watch this. But I had no idea how great it'd be. Fred Savage actually works as a producer on this new show, so it brings some of the classic feel to it. But this is most definitely told from the Black family perspective, of course it also has similar story elements that the original did like the brother from Vietnam, the sister who joins a 60's movement.
But what really ties this all together is the humor, the lessons to be learned, and most of all - the heart. Sure, the Williams' family is a bit dysfunctional but at the end of the day they do the right thing and love each other. There is a lot of humor relevant to Black culture and growing up in the 60's, but also a lot of universal humor that anyone can really enjoy. I found myself once again relating to the main character, Dean. I highly recommend this show if you watched the original, you'll love this. You will be pleasantly surprised.
