I grew up reading Tolkien's masterpieces, and the opportunity to delve deeper into the stories and beauty of Middle-Earth has been one readily accepted. So far I have seen reviews that discuss the show's liberal use of Tolkien's guidance as only a guide. Those reviews for me our precisely why I love this show so much.
Nothing will ever be the Peter Jackson trilogy, but what we have here is an amazing made for TV entry into a world unlike any other. These characters all seem humble and small, not grandiose leaders of the future. Elrod, Galadriel, Isildur, Gil-Galad....this is their beginning, thousands of years before the series we know and love.
Because of this, I appreciate their youth and naivity. It's like playing a real DnD or Middle-Earth module, something I was fond of us a kid. We get to see how the level 4s become stories of legend. So I implore the reader and watcher to look at the show fresh, not as something that is past.
Immerse yourself in a world where good is winning, where threats are on the horizon, and where beauty and magic is everywhere. The Stranger character so far has been my favorite....is he Gandalf? Sauropod? Tilton or one of the blue mages from poems? This suspense alone makes the show interesting, and a great addition. Amazon is doing its best, and I appreciate it.
