I’ve been a big Marvel fan but to be honest the Disney+ series have not been all that impressive although they’ve had their moments. But all that changed with Ms. Marvel. This quickly became my absolute favorite thing on television, right up there with Game of Thrones and Rick and Morty. Nothing in common with either of those other than I love all three of them and was able to watch episodes multiple times and get deeper enjoyment each time. It’s sad that there are so many out there who cannot open their hearts and minds and see that a Muslim family can be depicted just as happily and lovingly as any American sitcom family, but with more warmth and heart. I’ve been fascinated by the glimpses of Muslim culture, and love how they normalize being a Muslim teen in America. I’m not religious, and in fact normally I’m turned off by overtly religious subject matter, which is what made this so cool in that it’s just part of who she is but not something that’s being preached at me. Ms. Marvel demystifies so much of what we have been programmed to think is scary and negative. But ultimately, it’s just a really fun show about a teenage girl coming of age, who oh-by-the-way just happens to turn out to be a superhero. The girl who plays Kamala is absolutely amazing. What a magnetic charismatic presence! The music is fantastic, the history and culture is amazing, and it happens to be a really cool marvel superhero thing at the same time. I would give this 10 stars if I could. Now I’m trying to convince all my friends, co-workers, and the rest of my family they need to see it too!
