This movie truly did the original an honour! Beginning with a nod to the original author, this movie has an incredibly strong beginning and manages to continue that throughout the duration of the film. The ocean scenes were wonderful, considering they were shot majority out of water, with each scene truly capturing the magic of the ocean from the first movie. Scenes filmed on land were also as bright and colourful with set design that felt so real and authentic to the time and place. Halle Bailey gives a jaw dropping performance from Ariel, her vocals are out of this world. Part of her performance can be credited to the chemistry between all the actors on screen, they make everything seem so natural and flow so beautifully. Even the voice overs for Sebastian, Scuttle and Flounder. Melissa is incredible as Ursula, managing to capture the extravagance of Ursula from the animated classic would seem like a tough job but not for her. All the changes that were made in the story or songs compared to the original were definitely needed and really did make the story all that more magical and enjoying. I would 100% rewatch this!
