We went to see “Downton Abbey” at the theatre today.
It was good. Not great. The story was less compelling—and less believable—than the series episodes. The lighting was downright poor, compared to the production values of the series. The costumes weren’t as spectacular as those in the series, either.
But the characters were the same, familiar people. Some of them had good lines and shining moments. The Dowager (Maggie Smith) had all the best lines.
Seeing the house again was very fun. We were sorry that the big ball near the end took place at a different house. It would have been more appealing to see Downton en fête.
It was worth seeing. And I’ll probably watch it again when it comes out on TV.
Still, a bit of a disappointment overall. Especially since we go to the movies about once a year.
