I think the concept was a good one, but it was poorly developed and rushed through. Often times I comment that a movie was too long and they could have cropped some time off. I think this one needed another 15 minutes.
The relationships needed a little more development for us to be vested in the characters. When one was gone, I felt no loss. Also, these people are scientists, not soldiers. There was little time spent on them grappling with the orders they received. With these presumably rational people, I would expect there would have been some discussion before all hell broke loose.
The ending was as if they ran out of time and didn't want to put another quarter in the slot. No resolution or foreshadowing to an outcome. Half of the Earth has been incinerated and they are going to just land as if it is business as usual?
Nonetheless, it was a good view and I am glad I went to the theater to see it.
