I've watched this movie twice in the last three months. I love it! Good story, lovable characters, beautiful animation. The voice actors are very pleasant, I've watched quite a bit of anime and anime movies, and anyone else who does knows that voice actors can be grating to listen to sometimes. A coming of age story that has genuine, wrenching scenes a few times.
*Spoilers*
Two moments in particular stood out to me. One, the few times they flash back to Suzume as a child, crying and asking for her mother, who we learn was killed in a tsunami incident when she was four. I thought that portrayal of raw and innocent searching was truly heartbreaking, and felt like it could be a fairly real reaction IRL.
Two, the development of Daijin the cat (I may not be spelling that correctly). From the first moment of being scared sh**less when Daijin tells Sota, "Your in the way... goodbye." And thinking as the audience that it may have just killed him, to when you finally begin to understand that Daijin never really had an evil bone in it's body. It almost seemed childlike, only wanting to be Suzume's cat, and not realizing the damage and pain it's caused her in the process of trying to avoid reverting back to the keystone. I felt my eyes cloud up a little when he did.
