A24 is known for these types of movies, kind of an oppressive atmosphere surrounding the film. I saw a lot of people complaining about the droning noise, but I. just watching the film on Netflix with bluetooth headphones, didn't hear too much of a problem with it. If anything, I saw it as a positive.
The acting was really good, it's interesting to see Adam Sandler in a more... serious film. Where he breaks away from his comedic character, and goes into a darker, more realistic human. The scenes with his family did seem to lack some character however, but I honestly don't see that as too much of an issue.
The cinematography in this film is amazing, not to sounds pretentious but it does help convey a more... sinister message... if that makes sense.
The attention to detail is really somethin' else. Even the flow of blood is realistic. The seamless transitions into the opal scenes fascinated me more than they should've.
One of my main problems with this movie is that it almost seems to lack emotion. I didn't really feel anything except shock at the end. If anything some scenes just made me uncomfortable. Which if that's what they were going for, congrats.
Overall, I'm not gonna say this is a must-see or anything like that, but it's certainly well worth a watch. Very entertaining in a good way.
