I've never seen the animated version so I had no idea what to expect but...I was absolutely blown away from the storyline to the singing, to the diversity of the actors...I've loved mermaids since I was a little girl, and this movie helped to make my love a lot stronger because I saw someone like me up there. Someone just like me.
