The Challengers - A Disappointing Swing and Miss
Watching The Challengers felt like enduring a two-hour endurance test I hadn’t signed up for. Unfortunately, this movie lacks the excitement and intensity one would expect from a story centered around sports. Here’s a breakdown of why I wish I could reclaim these precious hours.
Terrible Music The soundtrack did nothing to elevate the experience—in fact, it seemed to be actively working against it. The music choices felt disjointed, out of place, and at times painfully distracting. It's hard to invest in the drama when every musical cue feels like a misstep.
Awkward Slow-Motions I get that sweat can symbolize hard work, but this movie overdid it. The gratuitous slow-motion shots of characters sweating felt like a bizarre obsession. Instead of building tension, they stretched scenes to an unbearable length and sapped the movie of any momentum it tried to build.
Poorly Written Characters The characters felt like cardboard cutouts—one-dimensional and utterly predictable. With paper-thin motivations and dialogue that felt like it was ripped from a bad soap opera, the protagonists were neither compelling nor relatable. They left me feeling indifferent and disconnected.
I'd like my two hours back, please.
