I read the trilogy and I was completely captivated by all aspects of the story and the characters. It is a masterpiece and it would have made a fantastic on-screen adaptation.
Unfortunately, I can't begin to list all of the areas where Fox has bastardized so many of the elements from the books. From horribly rewritten backstories (Sister Lacey is a badass militant Navy veteran, what?!) to ridiculous, blatantly politically correct character/casting changes (the vicious Giles Babcock is now a gorgeous blonde chick...and a "victim," what?!) to asinine and frankly unbelievable story additions (build a tree house for Amy at Project Noah, are you #$&king kidding me?!)... I'm simply blown away.
"Disappointed" is an understatement. "Insulted" is more accurate.
At this point (S1E5), I'm still watching this abomination to see how badly Fox can burn this amazing story to an unrecognizable cinder... and to see how many times my jaw will hit the floor in pure shock and disbelief.
That being said, if you've never read the books, maybe you'd enjoy it. Maybe my opinion is just tainted by how far Fox has taken this thing off the rails.
