I have read the book and yes it is a picturesque film. A little staged to look like paradise. Kya, as a child, is not dirty enough, in my opinion, her hair is shiny and combed and her teeth bright and white for a child abandoned in the wild, it doesn't ring true. As an adult the clothes are ironed and stylish which also is hard to cope with considering she had no electricity. The court case sort of skimmed over the details of Kya on the night Chase died which was really the crux of the story. The last few scenes were unnecessary. I would prefer to have seen the real story of Chase and Kya's last meeting. Having said all that I enjoyed the film, the acting was good. It is not Oscar material, because the book was one of the best I had ever read.
