It's really hard for me to write a not-so-great review of a movie based on my all time favorite Marvel comic book character. Especially since I have been anticipating this release for several years.
There were some trademark Deadpool one- liners and tipped hats to the previous movies, but I just did not get the same sincerity as the last 2 movies. I was anticipating a much more cinematic face off between Wolverine and Deadpool, instead it felt like they threw that dog in the mix to distract you from the shoddy storyline. It was refreshing to see other X-Men cameo in the movie but again, it wasn't all that notable or exciting. Channing Tatum did a fun Gambit to give him credit. It feels that Disney is just fishing out any multiverse plot line they can in order to profit with very little attention to the integrity of the original story lines. Reynolds and Jackman did create a semi decent dynamic except the fact Reynolds was trying to protect the life he had created (even though the disconnect of information between the failure of Wade's and Vanessa's relationship was completely absent).. and then the tie-in for wolverine's story line made it kinda difficult for the movie to flow smoothly. Yet of course, when you become the intellectual property of one of the largest monopolies of the film industry, you can't expect originality since Disney is only concerned with: profits from the franchise, leaving the multiverse wormhole open so they can suck anything they can out of the teat of creative property someone left us for a community that literally helped form imaginations.
I was hoping to enjoy this movie so much more than I actually did. I feel that if the first 2 movies were so successful, why would you deviate so sharply to a plot and storyline that feels so forced?
